We’re heading back to our favourite Mallee town and making a weekend of it! We’ve made some extra fun on the Friday night if you want to take a sickie, with the ‘Locals vs Blow-ins’ Pool Comp, Kino Motel, and Mighty Duke and the Lords bringing the party. But if you can’t make it in time for that, don’t worry, Saturday is all about a ‘Friend Speed Dating Devo Tea’ with Tell Your Friends You Love Them and the ladies of the Charlton CWA. This event is a fundraiser for Victoria’s smallest CWA branch. We’ll also be launching the Charlton Mini Golf Club, out the back of the Charlton Motel. Let us all come together to celebrate its rising from the depths of soil and eucalyptus leaves – there’ll be a comp too, of course.

This year also welcomes our brand new and improved OK Camp, right in the centre of town and within walking distance to the motel. You can BYO tent, or get Undersky to take care of it for you. Gary will look after you, and there’s toilets and showers! Keep your eyes and ears open for some fun little surprises popping up within camp too.

Saturday night we welcome back Blake Scott, who was the first ever artist to play the Charlton! This time he’s back on stage with his full band. We welcome some new acts to the function room, say hello to Floodlights, Imperial Leather and Sweat Dreams DJs! We’ve got more acts to announce soon, including our secret headliner, so stay tuned.

And, of course, we’ve got some seriously classy 70s meals for you, with classier cocktails to match.

See you there!

‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ Road Trip

We’ve found the best bits between your house and Charlton and made an interactive Road Trip. Now you don’t have to guess what’s worth turning off for, or getting out of the car for, we’ve done the legwork for you! Following along in either Google Maps or on the shiny new OK Motels website. You can also pick a Road Trip playlist curated by some of our fave OK artists.

The Second OK Motels x Tell Your Friends You Love Them ‘Local & Blow-Ins’ Pool Comp

Friday night Aiden (Local) and Clancy (Blow-In) will be back to defend their crown in our second ever ‘Locals and Blow-Ins’ Pool Comp. We put this together to bring the Charlton locals and us visitors together, and what better way to break down barriers than pairing you up as pool partners! Meet some friends from the other side of ‘the ring of steel’, have a chat, have a beer, get a ticket in the raffle, eat a party pie and get a coin on the table. Tunes supplied by Might Duke and the Lords and lovely DJs.

Charlton CWA ‘Devo Tea’ x Tell Your Friends You Love Them ‘Friend Speed Dating’

On Saturday arvo we’re helping raise funds for Victoria’s smallest CWA branch and giving you a chance to meet new friends over a scone and a cuppa. These could be your best OK weekend buds, or the bud you were meant to meet … no pressure though.  We’ll have tunes on supply and serving up Pimm’s to help get the convo going. This event will be held in the Charlton Shire Hall in the centre of town.

Charlton Motel Mini Golf Club

On a recent visit to Charlton we happened to discover a mini golf course buried under dirt and eucalyptus out the back of the Charlton Motel. It’s getting a second life, and we’ll all be officially opening the Charlton Motel Bush Mini Golf Club this OK event. Someone in recent years erected a clothes line down a couple of the holes, we’re going with it. This will be launched with the Charlton PGA and open throughout the weekend for a more casual hit around the concrete.

Never Said Motel

Never Said Motel invites audience volunteers to play the role of real-life figures in intimate conversations that have, until this point, only happened in our performer’s mind. This performance is held in Room 24 of the Charlton Motel on Saturday night.

New and Improved OK Camp

We’ve teamed up with Gary at the Travellers Rest in the centre of town to bring you OK Camp. A little tent city with toilet and shower facilities and located within walking distance to the Charlton Motel. We have two types of camping available, BYO and Fancy Camping supplied by Undersky. There’ll be a few little surprises popping up in camp, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Classic Dinners & Cocktails

We’ll be serving up the best 70s motel meals for you this OK and they WILL be accompanied by plenty of curly parsley and white bread and butter. We will be supplying the menu and taking orders for dinner shortly. We cater for all dietary requirements.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

Playing bright, energetic indie rock with lively guitar lines, sharp hooks, and dry wit, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever turn the clock back to the glory days of ’80s jangle pop, while giving it a tough, no-nonsense three-guitar update in the process.

Blake Scott

Blake Scott is a musician and songwriter and better known as a member of Australian three-piece The Peep Tempel. Blake is renowned for his character driven lyrics, textured musical compositions and cathartic live performances. His debut album Niscitam is a killer. We love it, and we think you might love seeing it live too!

Floodlights

Floodlights make honest, catchy rock music that melds ‘80s alternative rock with ‘90s New Zealand jangle-pop. They’re also one of our faves at the mo who we are really excited to see rock the Charlton function room.

Imperial Leather

Imperial Leather are a Spa Country, Spaghetti Goth, Surf n Turf, Free Femme four piece from Melbourne. Have a hoon on their debut 7” Leatherman / Spa Country (produced by Davey Lane) and you’ll take in moods that are equal parts wailing wind up, and meditative drop out. Sun drenched post punk to fill your cup.

Mighty Duke and the Lords

Crisp Linen Suits and sharp-witted lyrics meet junk percussion and double entendre. Whether on land, or on the open seas, Mighty Duke & The Lords keep the party shaking until the fish have gone to sleep!

Kino Motel

n

Kino Motel is the brand new project from Ed Fraser and Rosa Mercedes – after meeting in a commune in Berlin, the duo deserted together and hit the road. Following a grimy and particularly sweaty basement karaoke session somewhere in Vietnam in 2019, Ed and Rosa realised they needed to form a band, and Kino Motel was created. Named for the bar in which it was conceived, Kino Motel listeners can expect dusty melancholic gritty pop. Lots of oil and sand and road ahead.
