We’re heading back to our favourite Mallee town and making a weekend of it! We’ve made some extra fun on the Friday night if you want to take a sickie, with the ‘Locals vs Blow-ins’ Pool Comp, Smarts, and a band very special to the OK fam, K5,  and DJs. But if you can’t make it in time for that, don’t worry, Saturday is all about a ‘Friend Speed Dating Devo Tea’ with Tell Your Friends You Love Them and the ladies of the Charlton CWA. This event is a fundraiser for Victoria’s smallest CWA branch. We’ll also be launching the Charlton Mini Golf Club, out the back of the Charlton Motel. Let us all come together to celebrate its rising from the depths of soil and eucalyptus leaves – there’ll be a comp too, of course.

This year also welcomes our brand new and improved OK Camp, right in the centre of town and within walking distance to the motel. You can BYO tent, or get Undersky to take care of it for you. Gary will look after you, and there’s toilets and showers! Keep your eyes and ears open for some fun little surprises popping up within camp too.

Saturday night we welcome back Tropical Fuck Storm, our first ever headliner! We welcome new acts to the function room, say hello to Floodlights, and Our Carlson! With more acts to be announced.

And, of course, we’ve got some seriously classy 70s meals for you, with classier cocktails to match.

See you there!

‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ Road Trip

We’ve found the best bits between your house and Charlton and made an interactive Road Trip. Now you don’t have to guess what’s worth turning off for, or getting out of the car for, we’ve done the legwork for you! Following along in either Google Maps or on the shiny new OK Motels website. You can also pick a Road Trip playlist curated by some of our fave OK artists.

The Second OK Motels x Tell Your Friends You Love Them ‘Local & Blow-Ins’ Pool Comp

Friday night Aiden (Local) and Clancy (Blow-In) will be back to defend their crown in our second ever ‘Locals and Blow-Ins’ Pool Comp. We put this together to bring the Charlton locals and us visitors together, and what better way to break down barriers than pairing you up as pool partners! Meet some friends from the other side of ‘the ring of steel’, have a chat, have a beer, get a ticket in the raffle, eat a party pie and get a coin on the table. Tunes supplied by Might Duke and the Lords and lovely DJs.

Charlton CWA ‘Devo Tea’ x Tell Your Friends You Love Them ‘Friend Speed Dating’

On Saturday arvo we’re helping raise funds for Victoria’s smallest CWA branch and giving you a chance to meet new friends over a scone and a cuppa. These could be your best OK weekend buds, or the bud you were meant to meet … no pressure though.  We’ll have tunes on supply and serving up Pimm’s to help get the convo going. This event will be held in the Charlton Shire Hall in the centre of town.

Charlton Motel Mini Golf Club

On a recent visit to Charlton we happened to discover a mini golf course buried under dirt and eucalyptus out the back of the Charlton Motel. It’s getting a second life, and we’ll all be officially opening the Charlton Motel Bush Mini Golf Club this OK event. Someone in recent years erected a clothes line down a couple of the holes, we’re going with it. This will be launched with the Charlton PGA and open throughout the weekend for a more casual hit around the concrete.

Never Said Motel

Never Said Motel invites audience volunteers to play the role of real-life figures in intimate conversations that have, until this point, only happened in our performer’s mind. This performance is held in Room 24 of the Charlton Motel on Saturday night.

New and Improved OK Camp

We’ve teamed up with Gary at the Travellers Rest in the centre of town to bring you OK Camp. A little tent city with toilet and shower facilities and located within walking distance to the Charlton Motel. We have two types of camping available, BYO and Fancy Camping supplied by Undersky. There’ll be a few little surprises popping up in camp, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Classic Dinners & Cocktails

We’ll be serving up the best 70s motel meals for you this OK and they WILL be accompanied by plenty of curly parsley and white bread and butter. We will be supplying the menu and taking orders for dinner shortly. We cater for all dietary requirements.

Tropical Fuck Storm

What makes Tropical Fuck Storm as vital as they are unsettling is how well their songs, which often seem chaotic, fractured, and as brutal as the subjects they consider, speak to the currents of our contemporary worry. They’re making a strange sort of musical magic, to be sure. But they’re also demanding that we confront a world where change isn’t necessarily gonna come.

The Nation Blue

The Nation Blue formed in Hobart in 1996. Fast forward seven albums, countless tours and roughly a 1000 cleared rooms later and TNB are set to play their first show in 3 years.
A cockroach of Australian music, The Nation Blue’s are Bleak, blistering and breathing from the mouth.

Floodlights

Floodlights make honest, catchy rock music that melds ‘80s alternative rock with ‘90s New Zealand jangle-pop. They’re also one of our faves at the mo who we are really excited to see rock the Charlton function room.

Bitch Diesel

Just a couple of broads chasing down fame and fortune in a liquor infused haze. Bitch Diesel are rarely late to a live performance and are able to play for the full 25 minutes if required.

Smarts

Combining frantic, yet taut and rapidly paced rhythms amidst playful, almost child-like guitars and saxophones that just about make you want to pull your hair out, Smarts are a sound of their own.

Our Carlson

Our Carlson feels like Cafe Del Mar meets Toecutter blasting from the back of a VL Commodore in the carpark of Highpoint Shopping Centre circa 2000.

After being diagnosed with epilepsy at age 33, Carlson’s frustration with the medical system and the fragility of the human mind has exploded into the most exciting, and upsetting, ambient breaks of 2021. Dancing to fresh beats while being ranted at by a person who is coming to terms with their newfound disability is definitely a way to spend your Saturday night.

K5

K5 are a three-piece band from Castlemaine, they play lo-fi, raw, honest rock like they don’t give a fuck, because they don’t. You might see a familiar face in the middle there, because YES, that’s our legendary MC Nicole Tadpole, she’s also joined by Zeb and Jules. They will be tearing the function room apart first on Friday, so don’t be late!  “Soundwise there are elements of bands like Flipper and early Melvins passed through a distinctly Australian underground filter.” – Jem, DEAD

You want the good news or the OK news?
Stay in the loop. We’ll only send you the OK stuff, about once a month.
